Stop War

In the last century alone, wars and other armed conflicts cost 100 million lives—and caused incalculable human suffering. But war is not inevitable. Conflicts can be defused and transformed; arms can be laid down for good. Peace may often be elusive, but it is within our grasp which is both a gift and a task.

Religious communities bring uniquely important social, spiritual and moral assets to the quest for peace. They are the largest and best-organized civil institutions in the world, claiming the allegiance of billions across race, class, and national divides. And religious communities have moral assets that build upon and unfold the great strengths of their spiritualities.

Religions for Peace helps religious communities engage those assets to stop—and prevent—war. In every part of the globe, we work with religious groups to understand and address the root causes of conflict; to conduct mediation and negotiation among armed groups; and to lead communities in the reconciliation and healing needed to build true and lasting peace.
